| dcterms.abstract | This project aims to study the degree of job satisfaction of engineers in the Domestic Installations Department of The Hong Kong and China Gas Company with a view to determining whether job redesign is necessary within that department. A job Diagnostic Survey Questionnaire was used as an instrument to collect data. The data collected were analysed and interpreted in the light of Hackman and Oldham's well established Job Characteristics Model. According to the result of the survey, different degree of satisfaction were experienced by different groups of engineers from their assigned projects or tasks. The planning engineers are the most satisfied, followed by the domestic building installations engineers, the domestic appliance installations engineers and the survey section. Their perception of their jobs are closely related to their job nature, education level, ages and comments of the external consultants. It is concluded that partial job restructuring and job redesign, such as merger of the domestic appliance installation section and the survey section, as well as more delegation of authorities to the senior engineers in the domestic building installation section are necessary in order to improve the performance of the department as well as job satisfaction of engineers. | en_US |
