dc.title | A low cost web based vehicle tracking system using Google map API | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Location Based Service (LBS) markets grew larger and larger during these days. However, few services became economic success due to fierce competition and high costs. This paper introduced a LBS application using open source technologies, including free web map, free database and free web server, which were Google Map, PostgreSQL and Tomcat. The vehicle tracking system is an important component of a Fleet Management System (FMS) and implemented basic functions for fleet information management and vehicle tracking, which disseminated high quality services with centralization of both advanced hardware and human resources on the server, so that an internet explorer is only requirement for users to manage their vehicles. This system prototype has main functions of real-time vehicle tracking, driver and vehicle information management, route planning and history view. This paper introduces principles of fleet management and discusses the advantages of a low cost web based vehicle tracking system. Then mainly introduces the related technologies and discusses the development and performance test of this system. The last two chapters investigate the positioning accuracy and the map quality of Google Map in Hong Kong. The positioning accuracy tests took place in four different kinds of fields, which are downtown, urban, suburb and sea in Hong Kong. By comparing Google Map with map data from Hong Kong Lands Department, The map quality evaluation focused on the accuracy and update of the map features. | en_US |
