|Abstract:||This study is to investigate the written interlanguage of a class of Secondary Four students in my school whose first language is Chinese and second language is English. In this study, it is believed that the interlanguage of students can be revealed through their correction of their peers' writing. This belief is based on the assumption that during the course of the peer correction, students are consciously utilising their own perception of correctness to judge whether each attribute in their classmates' writing is correct or not and to correct each attribute which they think is incorrect. Therefore, correction made by the students on their peers' writing can be regarded as the interlanguage of the students themselves. However, it might be argued that the interlanguage of students can also be revealed through analysing students' own writing. As a matter of fact, both students' peer correction of their classmates' writing and students' own writing require students' own sense of correctness, but the difference is that students' correction of their peers' writing shows more precise manifestation of their interlanguage as it is claimed that the task of peer correction requires higher degree of consciousness and thus higher utilisation of their perception of correctness than the task of writing.|
