Abstract: The International Knee Documentation Committee - Subjective Knee Form (IKDC-SKF) was originally designed to evaluate the patient's symptoms, limitation in functional and sports activities for the patients with various knee disorders. It was designed and developed by Irrgang et al. (2001). Its reliability, validity and responsiveness have been well demonstrated. The aim of this study was to translate and develop a Chinese Version of IKDC-SKF (IKDC-SKF-HK). In this study, the reliability, validity and responsiveness of the Chinese version of IKDC-SKF-HK were tested accordingly in clinical applications. For the translation procedures, the forward and backward translation approach was followed. It was completed with bilingual professional translators. The content validity was achieved through a panel of experts. In clinical evaluation, 54 patients with a wide range of knee disorders (29 males and 25 females; 53.7% to 42.3 %; with age ranged from 16 to 65 years; mean age was 41.7 year) were recruited. The final score of IKDC-SKF-HK and the scores of each domain of the Chinese version of SF-36 were used for testing its validity. The result indicated that the IKDC-SKF-HK was a reliable, valid and responsive tool for evaluation the patient's symptoms with different knee disorders included degenerative changes, soft tissue or ligament injuries as well as fractures to the knee. It shown that the reliability of the IKDC-SKF-HK was high together with the Cronbach's Alpha Coefficient was 0.97. The validity with the Chinese version of SF-36 was demonstrated to be high. The Spearman rank Correlation Coefficients between the final score of IKD-SKF-HK and each domain of the Chinese version of SF-36 was ranged from 0.20 to 0.65 respectively. For the test of responsiveness, it reported with statistically significant with p value < 0.01. In conclusion, the IKDC-SKF-HK is a reliable, valid and responsiveness tool with equal measurement properties and conceptual equivalent to the original version after translated to Chinese.
