dc.title | Total software quality | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | This dissertation proposes and describes a new software quality management model known as "Total Software Quality" (TSQ). TSQ extends the concepts of Boehm's "spiral model" for software development to software quality management via evolutionary refinements and risk analysis techniques. Since software quality objectives are implemented iteratively in different stages, which are called the "TSQ cycles", it is possible to initiate, revise and iterate for unlimited quality goals under the TSQ framework. Therefore, TSQ offers high flexibility and adaptability to an IT organization to implement quality. Besides, as the TSQ model considers different requirements in established quality frameworks as candidates of the TSQ quality objectives, TSQ inherits all advantages from ISO9000, CMM, TQM, and other ideas from the quality gurus. As the background for the dissertation, a comprehensive research on the well known concepts of software quality management has been conducted and summarized. A comparison of the key features and the pros and cons of different quality models is included to show the diversity of such concepts for software quality management. Then the philosophy of TSQ is developed basing on the "Ten TSQ Beliefs" and Boehm's spiral model. The TSQ framework is described in detail with examples and implementation procedures. The last part of the dissertation is the description of "focus group interviews" and two case studies. These exercises are used to evaluate and demonstrate the applicability of TSQ for the IT industry. Lastly, the dissertation is concluded with the proposal of some further research work on TSQ. | en_US |
