| dcterms.abstract | The study examined the content validity, inter-rater reliability, test-retest reliability, and internal consistency of the Chinese version Adaptive Behavior Scale -Residential and Community Second Edition (CABS-RC:2). The study consisted of three stages, including translation, content validity examination and reliability examination stages. Two translators were recruited in translation stage, one translated the original AAMR Adaptive Behavior Scale -Residential and Community Second Edition (ABS-RC:2) into Chinese and another proof-read the translated version. The content validity of the CABS-RC:2 was then evaluated by a panel of five occupational therapists. The panel members agreed that the CABS-RC:2 was culturally relevant and representative in assessing the adaptive behavior of people with intellectual disabilities. A total of sixty people with borderline to severe grade intellectual disabilities, who were living and/or working in sheltered workshop or day activity center were recruited as subjects for reliability study. The mean age of the subjects was 33.5 years old (SD = 9.3) and they were assessed by seven raters using CABS-RC:2. The result showed that CABS-RC:2 had fair to good test-retest reliability (ICC for Part I domains = 0.70 - 0.97, Part II domains = 0.59 - 0.92) and good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha: Part I = 0.97, Part II = 0.89). The instrument also had fair to good inter-rater reliability in Part I domains (ICC = 0.61 - 0.95) but the reliability of Part II domains was not satisfactory (ICC = 0.25 - 0.60). In conclusion, CABS-RC:2 was generally a valid and reliable tool for assessing the adaptive behavior of people with intellectual disabilities in Hong Kong. However, re-evaluation of inter-rater reliability for CABS-RC:2 Part II was recommended. | en_US |
