dcterms.abstractWithin the last two decades, the international brand-name hotels have developed and expanded in China significantly. The top ten hotel management groups of international brand in the worldhave already disembarked in China. At the end, the entry of these hotels have upgraded hotel management and promoted the fast development of the hotel industry in China. To study the success of these international brand hotels in China, it is important to focus on the top management. The composition of top management which constitutes the core hotel business has already changed, because foreign expatriates bring those changes into China. It helps to upgrade local hotel employees gradually. Thus, it is worthwhile to study how these changes have occurred. Through the questionnaire survey on the existing 28 international brand hotels in Shanghai and face-to-face discuss with the managers of the hotels, the information was collected and studied. The results show thatstar hotels in Shanghai will continue to recruit international hotel management companies to help manage hotels in China in the future. The localization of top management in international brand hotels will depend on the mature development of local qualified hotel management, and the opening time of hotels, degree of brand, the star rating, background of investors as well as management style. Practical suggestions were providcd in this study to hotel investors and hotel management parties about recruitment of top management. This study also supplies cordial opinion and help to those excellent local hotel management talents, who want to take the challenges of managing international brand hotels in China.en_US
