dc.title | A study of factors affecting the intention of employees to quit in a chemical company in Hong Kong | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Over the past years, many studies have focused on the turnover process. In order to further study the factors affecting the intention of employees to quit, a research study was conducted in the sales office of an European based chemical company in Hong Kong. Job satisfaction, views on the present job, views on the alternative jobs and perceptions towards reorganization of local staff after de-merger of the company were explored in the study. The study was a questionnaire survey with 69 respondents. A model derived from the Expanded Mobley et al Model (1979a) was used for analysis. Individual demographic variables, reorganization perception, satisfaction with the facets of job, attraction-expected utility of present job, attraction-expected utility of alternatives and intention to quit were measured. The results showed that job satisfaction and attraction-expected utility of present job were significant negative predictors of the intention to quit while attraction-expected utility of alternatives was a significant positive predictor of the intention to quit. Individual demographic variables and reorganization perception of the employees was found to affect the intention to quit through influencing the job satisfaction and attraction-expected utility of present job. Tenure had negative relationship with job satisfaction and attraction-expected utility of present job. Both income and reorganization perception had positive relationship with job satisfaction and attraction-expected utility of present job. In addition, sex difference affected the job satisfaction while marital status affected the attraction-expected utility of present job. The application of the findings for future researches and for management were discussed. | en_US |
