dcterms.abstract | Multi-layer subcontracting of construction works is a common practice in the local construction industry. In the past decade, the problems concerning the practice of multi-layer subcontracting have been widely debated. This research is aimed at obtaining more updated information concerning the problems faced by the construction industry with regard to the subcontracting practice. It also aims to have more understanding of subcontracting arrangement and provide information for formulating mitigation methods. The objectives have been achieved by conducting a questionnaire survey of building services practitioners who represent different firms in the construction industry. The main contributions of this study are the development of in-depth knowledge in the common subcontracting practice and the identification of the major causes of issues such as unclear or unfair terms in contracts, low tender price and the loopholes of payment measure and legislation. Based on the findings, recommendations to minimize the negative effects of the issues are made. | en_US |
