dcterms.abstractIn the design process of an electronic circuit, the designer has to collect various design inputs such as functional requirements and operational constraints to produce the specifications for the circuit. Standard circuit topologies will be selected to configure a circuit that may work for the specifications. The designer should then apply theoretical analysis to obtain a detailed design for the circuit. Traditionally, a prototype has to be built and tested against the theoretical analysis and the specifications. Any discrepancies found should start for another cycle of detailed design modification. With the rapid increase of the computing power of even the popular personal computer, there are great advantages for the designer to perform circuit simulation before prototyping of the designed circuit. It is a great motivation to develop a tool that can pick-up an given circuit and automatically search for the best values of the components. Works have been done before on this subject and a computer-aided package named MATSPICE has been developed to link up the circuit simulation functions of PSPICE and the Optimization functions of MATLAB with application in analogue filter design. The MATSPICE has been enhanced in this project. The program structure and functional modules have been re-organizated. All modules have been defined and coded using MATLAB programming language. The program is more interactive with the user for data input. The resulting MATSPICE is more easy to use and more open for further development. Applications of the MATSPICE have been demonstrated with two illustrative examples. The results indicate that MATSPICE is capable for optimization of various analogue circuits satisfactorily. The examples also explored some constraints and provide insight for further development to the MATSPICE.en_US
