dcterms.abstractThe purpose of this dissertation is to analyse the existing distribution supply system of a local power company and to predict the performance of the power system due to various operating environment. (The system selected consists of around 70 secondary substations in three different primary substations. The number of customers is over 29000.) The system infeed (radial feed or duplicated sources) and load groups (i.e. 11 kV in close-meshed ring arrangement) of a local power utility are currently designed in accordance to N-1 security standard. The impacts on the supply reliability of the system are being studied for condition of operating it beyond the N-1 security standard. The 11 kV rings will be analysed by failure mode ( Minimal cut set method ) to calulate the Partial Loss of Continuity (PLOC) and Total Loss of Continuity (TLOC) at various loading pattern. All first order and second order branch failures will be examined. Three of the most important topics areas are [1] : - What reliability indices are required for a realistic assessment of distribution systems - What reliability models and techniques are necessary to evaluate these indices - How can these indices most suitably be applied in management decision making. This dissertation is aimed to analyse the impacts of increased load on the reliability of the distribution network. An analytical model and program has been developed to find out the distribution reliability indices of the closed-meshed rings. By using the model developed, Operating Engineers and Planners can : - Understand the effects of load increased to the distribution reliability indices; - Evaluate and compare the effectiveness of different operating environment; - Simulate different operating parameters and then estimate the reliability indices; and - Prioritise which rings need to be reinforced.en_US
