A study of the implementation of the process approach to teaching writing in a Form Six English classen_US
This study aimed to introduce a process writing program to 10 secondary six (Grade 12) ESL students. It tried to examine the effect of the introduction of the process approach to writing. The students' experience of writing as a process of developing ideas was investigated. The likely effect of the process approach on the quality of students' writing was examined. The students' attitude towards the introduction of the process approach to writing was also studied. In an attempt to examine the student writing behaviour under the process approach, two expository writing tasks with three drafts for each were collected and a comparison between drafts was made to show the effect of the process approach on the quality of writing. A questionnaire was designed to investigate the students' attitude towards the introduction of the process approach. Interviews were also conducted to collect specific details. The findings of this study show that the students could develop their ideas through writing under the process approach. Some students made improvement in content and organization through revision. However, only a few students were receptive to the introduction of the process-oriented writing approach.en_US
