Abstract: The success of the China's "open door" policy which was initiated in 1978 has given confidence and encouragement for the Chinese leadership to have a great forward step of economic transformation, that is from the planned economy to market economy. It is expected that problems and difficulties would be encountered by many enterprises in the process of transformation. Management consultancy services will be needed to help the enterprises in all aspects. This study aims at finding out the market potential of setting up a management consultancy firm in Wuhan, Capital of Hubei Province, P.R.C. The literature review focuses on the development of consultant in China, in particular in Wuhan city. The framework of environmental threat and opportunity profile is used. The structural analysis of consultancy industry and theories about marketing technique are reviewed and analysed. Various methods such as survey of mailing, forum discussion, in-depth interview and desktop research are carried out to collect the relevant information. The analysis of the information and findings of survey lead to have a thorough study on the justification of setting up the consultancy firm. This includes the formulation of environmental threat and opportunity, market demand study and competitive analysis of the firm. A practical detail business plan is recommended to carry out the consultancy business. Finally, there are the conclusion of the study and proposed idea of further studies in China's economy development.
