Abstract: | To remain competitive in the world market, the textile and apparel industry in Hong Kong has constantly been upgrading itself on several fronts, including fostering quick response, reducing costs, minimising stockholding for customers and adding value to its products. Improvements can be found in the whole production process. The computer technology pays an important role in the development of the industry. The expert systems are lukewarm in the industry in 1990s. The aim of this project ties to develop an expert system prototype, which is used in fabric inspection. The development of the prototype adopted the rapid prototyping approach (Fatemeh Zahedi, 1993). In this method, a system prototype was developed in a short time and refined through discussing with the users. Through using the expert system, the problem of lack of experts in the industry may be solved in the area of quality control of fabric. The company can use the system as a training tool to train up the new employees in fabric inspection. |
