dc.title | Carbon emissions of new building | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Climate change is considered as one of the threatening environmental problems, which is progressing at an unexpectedly rapid rate. It has been widely accepted that the recent global climate change is caused and accelerated by greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from all energy endues sectors such as industry, building, transport, agriculture, energy and waste management. There is continuous increase in public concern that the building sector could contribute to alleviating the global climate change problem. Therefore, several study groups proposed GHG quantification protocols to to facilitate the reporting and monitoring of emissions from buildings. However, the emissions quantification approaches in these common international protocols are not fully applicable to buildings all over the world. Thus, this study aims to investigate the applicability and practicality of using these protocols locally by launching a carbon audit in a new institutional building in Hong Kong. The GHG emissions sources and emissions profiles of the building are presented and discussed. The dissertation concludes by evaluating the limitations and uncertainties in the GHG emissions accounting. Recommendations are made to improve the quality and reliability of the building emissions quantifications in future study. | en_US |
