dcterms.abstractIn the last decade, CORBA-compliant systems have gained a wide acceptance in distributed object computing. As more and more CORBA-based applications have been developed in different industries, the monitoring of CORBA programs becomes important. As the amount of trace data generated in the monitoring system becomes large, the bottleneck problem makes the performance of the conventional centralized monitoring system poor. In order to solve the problem, an optimized hierarchical distributed monitoring system has been proposed. In this project , we design and implement such a system for CORBA-based environments. We investigate the hierarchical configuration issues and identify the factors and parameters concerned in determining the near-optimal monitoring system configuration. Based on the study, we design algorithms to optimize the performance of a hierarchical distributed monitoring system through choosing a proper configuration. Experiments have been carried out to evaluate the proposed approach and algorithms. The results show a significant improvement in system performance can be achieved.en_US
