A case study of the application of the Japanese manufacturing philosophy in improving the operation efficiency of a commercial laboratory in Hong Kongen_US
Most organizations nowadays are facing tremendous pressure on competition. In order to remain survived, they must seek ways for offering customers high valued added products and services in competitive price. This is essential for the service industries of Hong Kong because they contribute a high proportion of the GDP of local economies but yet there are few studies on how to improve the operation efficiency and service quality. It is the purpose of this business research project to propose a feasible solution for service industries in Hong Kong. The researcher borrows the concepts derived from the Japanese manufacturing philosophy, which is believed to be the key of success in many Japanese companies, and tries to apply them in a commercial laboratory environment in Hong Kong as case study. By collaboration with the management of that laboratory, an improvement program was developed and carried out in the laboratory for the past few months. The outcomes of the program show some positive indications of the feasibility of applying the Japanese manufacturing philosophy in improving the operation efficiency and service quality of a service company.en_US
