| dcterms.abstract | The main purpose of this research is to evaluate the feasibility of applying Web-based GIS on hiking, and develop the different functions useful for finding a suitable hiking trail and at the same time providing useful information for the user. Web-based GIS allows many people to get access to the functions, which interact with the users who want to obtain the information that suits their needs. This dissertation implements a web-based GIS application on the hiking activity. It allows the user to access to the map. And provides basic map manipulating functions. There are also innovative functions that help the user to find the path and view the vertical profile. Other useful information are also available in the application. Description of the system and data design will be given later on. And the whole implementation process that includes data preparation and programming will also be fully explained. Besides, the difficulties and constraints faced during the development will be examined. The future development and improvement of the application will also be mentioned. At the end of the dissertation, the evidence of the preceding chapters will be summed up gathered together in the conclusion. An application for finding hiking trail and providing useful information like the estimated finishing time, facilities along the hiking trail and transport information was developed. | en_US |
