| dcterms.abstract | The Internet Protocol that connects our network today routes packets to their destinations according to the IP addresses. Each IP address determines a fixed physical network location, which greatly hinders the development of mobile networking. Mobile IP, specified in RFC 2002, is a standard proposed to solve this problem. However, the current implementation of mobile IP has only limited support for IP multicasting. This dissertation suggests an improvement to the existing multicast extension of the mobile IP protocol specified in RFC 2002 that enhances the support for IP multicasting. The improvement designed for the extension must be compatible with the existing Mobile IP protocol specified in REC 2002 and the existing Internet systems. It should provide transparent service to multicast connections that have been established, without disruption or loss of connection due to moving to another network. It fully utilizes network resources of the current attached network. The protocol should tries to locate the shortest path of connections to ensure efficient use of network bandwidth. | en_US |
