Immediate effect of dorsiflexion night splint in combination with semi-rigid insole for plantar fasciitisen_US
In Hong Kong, patients suffering from plantar fasciitis are usually prescribed conservative treatment that includes physical therapy and orthotic intervention. Basically, the total contact insole served as a cornerstone of orthotic treatment in treating plantar fasciitis. Although certain promising results were provided while allowing weight bearing, some patients still complained about pain after applying the insole. To evaluate the results of two orthotic treatment approaches for patients with insertional plantar fasciitis, 30 patients participated in a prospective randomized study. There were 6 male and 24 female, age ranged from 23 to 87 years (average 44.7 years). During a 4 - week period, 14 subjects(Group A) were treated wit a pair of semi-rigid insole, and 16 subjects(Group B) were treated with a pair of semi-rigid insoles together with a dorsiflexion night splint. Subjective [questionnaire with foot function index (FFI)] and the objective (Parotec System) responses were recorded for analysis of the clinical result. The outcomes showed both types of orthotic treatment could provide satisfactory effect for relieving pain to the patient who was suffering from plantar fasciitis. Although more subjects claimed better improvement with dorsiflexion night splint together with semi-rigid insole, no significant difference (p>0.05) was found in the measured parameters between the two treatment groups.en_US
