dcterms.abstract | Economic crisis in 1997 has brought numerous impacts to Hong Kong, especially to small and medium enterprises. Indeed, they are the backbones of the Hong Kong economy. It is significant to perform a research to investigate their crisis management in facing economic crisis. Nevertheless, there are not many researches done in this aspect of crisis management of SMEs before. In this study, there is one selected foreign theory to be adopted. It is Mitroff and Pearson's four major components in crisis management. They are types, phases, systems and stakeholders. Based on these four elements, more understandings to the existing crisis management can be made. Also, the future trend of the ways of crisis management a company will take and various potential crises it may face can be got. There are four chosen small and medium enterprises to be interviewed. They are selected in four various industries - service, retail, manufacturing, and import and export sectors in Hong Kong. The main purposes are to obtain more information about the current situations of the crisis management in those enterprises and the ways of the crisis management running in their operations. As a result, there is only one company implementing the crisis management in their daily operations. Some do not consider using crisis management whereas the others value it but do not put it into practice. Certainly, the crisis management is not easy to be adopted. But the crisis management can bring numerous benefits to the enterprises. The most important points are that it can assist them to eliminate most of the negative impacts, to control situations, to grasp opportunities and to win their competitors. | en_US |
