dc.title | An empirical design of ATM VOD system | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Video On Demand (VoD) is a new application area of high-speed public ATM network. In a VoD system, once a customer issues a request, the user can watch the movie within a small start-up delay through the network. In the past decade, much of the research work was done on the multimedia data flow on broadband networks, where detail study of the cell transmission behaviour was studied on single data stream. In this work, we are going to study VoD systems at a higher level. A VoD system is mainly divided into three components: video server, high-speed ATM network and user's display equipment. We first review and compare a number of VoD server hardware, software and clients as a whole system, as well as investigate different network topologies deployed in VoD networks. Then computer simulations are used to study different network topologies of VoD system so as to retrieve useful information for a full scale deployment. | en_US |
