Abstract: | Leader reputation is an important social capital which bringing benefit. Human capital is a foundation of reputation formation, and experience is a key part of human capital. Many scholars have put forward the basic concept, theoretical basis and formation mechanism of reputation, and developed some model of relationship between reputation and team performance. However, what is the mechanism of reputation on team performance? Which factors can moderate between reputation and team performance, as well as how is the moderator direction? Based on the theories of reputation and some relevant studies by previous researchers, the thesis put forward a theoretical framework to guide the study and hypotheses for empirical testing. A questionnaire was designed based on a comprehensive review of the literature, personal interviews. Face-to-face surveys were conducted at Henan Unicom affiliates in 18 cities of Henan, and 221 valid questionnaires were collected.The data was analyzed with reliability analysis and regression analysis, using SPSS statistical software, to test the hypotheses and achieve research objectives. Major findings of the study included: leader reputation has positive effects on team performance; current position tenure and cross-departments experience can be regarded as a moderating variable between leader reputation and team performance. Academic contributions of this research included extending the mechanism of reputation on team performance, analyzing alternative effect between human capital and social capital, and testing measurement scale of leader reputation in China. Based on results of the analysis, managerial implications of the study were discussed. Conclusions drawn from the study can not only guide the training of leader reputation, but also provide some basis on co-ordination arranging manager' position according current position tenure and cross-departments experience. |
