Abstract: Correct decision and precise analysis always came from high quality data. This thesis presents a study on checking the spatial data quality in GIS. It firstly reviewed the parts of ISO standard about the spatial data quality - ISO19113, ISO 19114, and ISO 19115. ISO 19113 includes the components of data quality and quality principles. ISO 19114 provides the framework for evaluating the quality of a dataset. ISO 191 IS is about the metadata. Secondly, it reviewed the current GIS data quality checking systems by the demo or user manual of them. Comparing different systems, it summarized the main functions that the current data quality checking systems had and the technology they used. Thirdly, it proposed an advanced algorithm based on the current one, namely Row Scanning algorithm, to check large scale data's topological relationship more efficiently. Through an experiment with data from real world, it is found that the new algorithm is more efficient than the existing solutions. At last, a new framework of data quality checking system is built which applies the ISO standards and the newly proposed algorithm (Row Scanning algorithm) in C# language.
