| dcterms.abstract | Shenzhen Guo Wei Electronics Co., Ltd. is one of the largest telephone manufacturers in the Far East. In 1997, the company decided to introduce high technology and high value-added products into production. The GSM mobile phone was the primary product and the company expected this product to yield a high profit margin. In addition, consumer electronic product manufacturers face servere competition as customers expect higher quality with lower cost. This led to an opportunity to start a research on how to enhance both the productivity and quality on the mobile phone production line. As a production manager, my role is to satisfy the production target and ensure the product quality with limited resources. To fulfil the company goal, productivity measurement was implemented to provide objective evidence for further improvement. The application of productivity and quality improvement tools were also demonstrated in this research. Finally, re-engineering was conducted to totally restructure the process flow and production layout. Re-engineering provided a systematic and scientific way to ensure the implementation of the new production and quality system was feasible, effective and gave continuing improvement. The achievement of reengineering was evaluated. The results of this research serve as a proposal on company strategy for the whole range of products manufactured. The successful trial from the mobile phone production department has been an important milestone for the company to further progress on productivity measurement and business re-engineering. | en_US |
