Experimental study regarding on waste heat recovery at shower drains in high-rise buildingen_US
Waste heat recovery devices often face challenges caused by low efficiency and limited space which slacken the development of high-rise buildings in city. Most of the related past works focused on DWHR (drain water heat recovery) devices which occupy enormous space for their vertical installation. This dissertation seeks to a new horizontally installed waste heat recovery of shower drain water to identify its efficiency and possibility of wide scale use in high-rise building. A model was set up and an experiment was carried out to gain the related data and calculated the efficiency of NTU-effectiveness method by abundant experiment. A questionnaire survey was conducted to gather information from residents with instantaneous waster heater installation in home. The findings of the experiment and questionnaire survey reveal the importance of flow rate of drainage water as one of major factors which affect heat recovery efficiency. In order to explore the energy saving of the horizontally installed waste heat recovery directly, a case study was assumed to calculate the theoretical performance. The results indicate the efficiency of the experimental model and the possibility of developing a test procedure for future performance testing and characterization of the model. Finally, to complement the limitation of the experimental study the design parameters of the model should reset so as to improve the heat exchange coefficient.en_US
