A study on kansei-based method for integrated concept design and its application in mobile phoneen_US
Satisfying users' requirements, not only functional requirements, but also perceptual demands, is the final objective of product design and development. Nowadays, more and more manufacturers have paid attention to this. On the basis of kansei engineering, this research proposes a new method of kansei-based concept design to establish a quantitative relationship between customers' feelings and product features. The basis of this method is the statistical approach-conjoint analysis. Through in-depth investigation and statistic evaluation, a regression model can be derived for a given user image. With the regression model, designers can easily find out the features which affect the image most. It also can be used to evaluate different alternative design concepts. For the conceptual design generated by using the kansei-based method, the original design scenarios may not satisfy the strength requirements. It is necessary to simulate its behavior in the actual operation before manufacturing. The computer simulation technology is used to simulate the design scenarios and further evaluate the design scenarios. The final best design solution can be identified. In this research, a case study of mobile phone is used to illustrate the practical application of the developed method. Then with the drop test in computer, the structure of mobile phone model is optimized in such a way to reduce stress concentration and risk of damage.en_US
