|dc.title||Performance evaluation of TCP/IP, HTTP and FTP over ATM networks||en_US|
|dcterms.abstract||There are many methods that can utilise the network resources when an TCP/IP network is ATM based, e.g., Classical IP over ATM (CLIP), LAN Emulation (LANE), Multipotocol over ATM (MPOA), etc. The first two methods are selected for investigation in this thesis. In this thesis, a large set of experiment is performed for measuring the performance of different protocols over ATM in a test environment. Different experiments are designed for measuring the performance, such as throughput and transfer delay, of these protocols by investigating the effects of changing the configurable options of protocols, such as message size, send and receive buffer size, TCP window size. We then use these results to tune our HTTP and FTP applications which are currently used predominantly by the Internet community. Indeed, many recent studies show that HTTP and FTP applications are the two most frequently used network applications. In addition, possible techniques to improve the performance are investigated.||en_US|
