Investigation of energy saving by using optimal stop strategy in a high-rise buildingen_US
Nowadays, energy saving is a worldwide caring issue. For the commercial building, HVAC system energy consumption is a huge amount in the whole building energy consumption. In most cases, chillers are turned off manually after people are off work. At this time, the cooling stored in chilled water inside the pipes of air-conditioning systems is wasted. On the basic of control of energy management control (EMC) system, optimal start and stop strategies were developed. More attention has been paid on to optimal start, while limited studies have covered optimal stop. Most public papers developed this optimal stop control strategy in EMC functions or combined it with energy storage method. The main aim of this study was to explore the feasibility to use optimal stop strategy to safe chilling system energy use. The sampling building is the land mark building of Hong Kong, which is in construction. The theory and methodologies of optimal control and dynamic models were studied. The chilling system and sample building situation were simulated to conduct the stop strategy. Through simulating the typical components of chilling system, such as pipeline model, heat exchanger model, AHU model and zone model, the temperature of chilled water and indoor air were investigated. By restricting the range of indoor air temperature, the optimal stop times were determined. The relevant energy saving was calculated for demonstrating the potential of optimal stop strategy. Based on the findings and available data, optimal stop time is affected by the outdoor temperature, cooling load, thermal capacity of chilled water and the thermal capacity of zone air. The application of optimal stop strategy in high-rise building is feasible. The energy and money saving are attractive.en_US
