dcterms.abstract | Corporate entrepreneurship has long been the focus study of scholars for the past years. It is believed that participating in entrepreneurial activities by the employees can foster the corporate entrepreneurship of the companies in terms of innovation, proactiveness and risk taking. Profit, return on investment, market share, number of products/service of the entrepreneurial firms can be increased through the practice of entrepreneurial activities. During these few years, the business environment in Hong Kong has changed tremendously, especially due to the increase global competition and also the entry of WTO by China in September 2001. It is extremely important for Hong Kong firms to maintain or even to increase their comparative advantages in order to stay competitive. As it is believed that corporate entrepreneurship can help an organization to foster, the survey set forth to provide a framework for the reference to Hong Kong entrepreneurs/owners. The study is focused on a number of industries, both in manufacturing & service sector. Watches & clocks industry and toy industry were chosen as the targets of manufacturing industry. Tourism & media industries were chosen as the targets of service industry Survey questionnaires have been sent to a total 1,343 companies and 110 completed questionnaires were finally received. The findings revealed that entrepreneurial behaviors were found in both industries. Moreover, it further shows that the strongest factor associated with the entrepreneurial behaviors for manufacturing companies is the reward/reinforcement while opportunity recognition is the strongest factor for service companies. It also shows that in order to be entrepreneurial, firms should increase the usage of environmental scanning mechanisms, be more flexible in the planning systems and encourage high employee involvement in firm's strategic planning. The firms should pay more attention to the surrounding business environment; the strategies and plans should be more flexible in order to cope with the changing environment and encourage the employees to participate in the formulation of company strategies. | en_US |
