The optimization of power consumption, communication efficiency, form factor, and performance/cost is an essential step to successfully design of personal portable devices. Low power consumption, small form factor, and high performance/cost can be collectively achieved with the application of highly integrated devices, better architecture, modular design, low operation voltage, and built-in power management mechanisms. Communication efficiency can be achieved by combining and applying existing communication means into a single device. This dissertation describes how to achieve the above effects using new design methods on existing technologies for personal portable devices and in particular, Personal Communication Devices. Applications of such ranged from low-end devices to high-end products will be illustrated.en_US
