Abstract: | As markets grow increasingly efficient, competition no longer takes place between individual business, but between entire supply chain. Collaboration can provide competitive edge that enables all business partners in a supply chain to prevail and grow. Successful supply chain management requires cross-functional collaboration and customer integration. In the past, most of the global companies focus on how to improve buy-side operational efficiency in the supply chains. Today, because of the acceleration in the rate of technology innovation, market changes very fast, especially in hi-tech industry, which had characteristics of extremely short product life cycle and dynamic market. To continuously drive supply chain performance, organization must exploit new ideas to enhance internal collaboration and make use of IT to extend connection in the business network to address the sell-side demand chain challenges. This dissertation would examine the issues related to demand chain in high-tech industry and present a new framework to mange it to increase efficiency. To be competitive in the fast changing market, companies must drive supply chain efficiently and enhance the relationship between customers and suppliers, so that information among the supply chain will flow faster and more accurate than before, thus achieve the objectives of reduced inventory and order lead-time. Apart from the external information integration, internal collaboration should not be ignored in the demand management. This study presented a case in mobile phone company to illustrate the proposed framework and opportunities created to different stakeholders by deploying the web-based demand management model. First of all, it identified the key factors that affect the efficiency of current supply and demand chains. Then it studied the strategy to implement a web-based demand management tool to react rapidly and effectively to market change. It also evaluated how to drive internal information sharing and collaboration by promoting knowledge management to maximize values. New insights will be derived from this case and a model will be synthesized and ready for replication to other global companies as well as SME. In sum, the purpose of this case is to identify impact in making use of web-based technology to gain global visibility in their business network, enhance internal information integration to quickly response market demand and create new opportunities. |
