An examination of urbanized nature-based tourism in Hong Kongen_US
Though there are more researches on different ecotourism destinations, Hong Kong has never been on the agenda. This paper explores, through 18 personal in-depth interviews, the potential type of nature-based tourism that it can offer. Being a popular urban area, Hong Kong is never considered as a nature-based destination; its image, as well as available tour products are found to be unfavorable. However, there are indeed some valuable nature-based resources geographically close to the urban area, the tourists can experience two extremes within a short visit. Emphasis is placed on the combination of both urban tourism and nature-based tourism. The nature-based experience will not be as exotic as in many of the destinations in the world, but the mixture of experience is very unique. The paper concludes by pioneering urbanized nature-based tourism in Hong Kong. This concept plays an important role in offering nature-based tourism in an urban area, given sufficient challenges to be solved. It may also be applicable on any urban destinations with outstanding nature-based resources.en_US
