| dcterms.abstract | It is said that we are now living in the information age. Many Asian countries invested a huge amount of money on the development of information technology. Software industry is one of the types that attract lot of funding. The packaged software development is said to contribute a lot to the future growth of Hong Kong's economy. On the other hand, the high failure rate of software product development cannot be overlooked. The objective of this research is to identify what factors leading to the success of new software product development. This research was based on large amount of research materials in the high tech industry especially on software product development and the situation of the software industry in Hong Kong. The theoretical framework was devised from source-position-performance framework with additional variable to reveal the situation in Hong Kong Software Industry. It was affirmed in this study that the source-position-performance model was applied to the new software product development in Hong Kong. The factors of marketing & technical skills and resources with multi-competent members in new product development team are important to new software product development. Moreover, product differentiation can lead to better product performance in the software industry. Thus, it is recommended that more training courses should be opened on the latest technology and marketing strategy to the employees in Hong Kong Software Industry. Moreover, the employer should encourage the marketing and development employees to further study on technology and marketing subjects respectively so that the knowledge of the members in new product development team can be enriched. The government should help the software companies to improve the software development process so that the quality of the software can be improved. | en_US |
