dc.title | Experimental studies for lowering the current consumption in liquid crystal display | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Nowadays, most electronic products are required to be user friendly, portable and have long operating time. To make products more user friendly, a large liquid crystal display panel should present more messages. If the products are portable and have long operating time, then all the components need to have low operating voltage and low-current consumption. Therefore, the development of low-current consumption liquid crystal display becomes an important and urgent issue. The purpose of this thesis is to address the parameters that affect the current consumption of a liquid crystal display. Through the study of those parameters, a conclusion was drawn to elucidate the requirements to construct a low-current consumption liquid crystal display. The parameters that have been investigated are (1) length width ratio of the ITO trace; (2) display area; (3) thickness of the polyimide; (4) cell thickness of the liquid crystal display and (5) driving frequency of the liquid crystal display. Customized test cells were built to conduct the above investigations. The data shows that the current consumption is directly proportional to the driving frequency and display area and is inversely proportional to the length width ratio of the indium tin oxide trace as well as cell thickness of the liquid crystal display. Thickness of the polyimide has little effect with the current consumption. | en_US |
