dcterms.abstractA self- administered teamwork survey was conducted in the Wang Tai Sin Hospital to obtain the profile of teamwork and to investigate the factors affecting the effectiveness of teamwork in the hospital. The study was intended to find out the bench mark for teamwork development. Three research questions were formulated. The study had to find out the profile of the teamwork , and whether there were teamwork perception differences in different divisions of staff and in different nature of teams. 358 professional and clerical staff were recruited and 181 valid responds were collected for analysis. The response rate was about 50% . Non-response bias was apparent by chi-square test from different divisions of respondents . However, there was no significant difference in T-test of the teamwork scores between the response and non-response group . Test-retest reliability was (帠=0.95, n=9, p=0.0001) . Cronback alpha was (帢=0.90,n=151, items = 43). The teamwork concept was built on Varney (1989:34-37) questionnaires measuring teamwork which teamwork consists of four dimensions namely task, process, interpersonal and leadership dimensions describing the characteristics of teamwork. 4- point Liken scale was adopted to describe the 'agreeness ' of the statement mentioned in the questionnaires with '1 'is the strongly disagree and '4 ' strongly agree. Mean score of the teamwork was 2.782 (SD=0.305, N=151). Mean scores of the teamwork dimensions were: task =2.92 (SD=0.38, N=170), process= 2.764 (SD=0.305, N=151). interpersonal= 2.763 (SD=0.313, N=160) and leadership = 2.664 (SD=0.267,N=165). There was no significant difference in teamwork scores between the different divisions of staff. However, there was significant difference in teamwork scores between the different nature of team with the cross departmental teams scored better than departmental team. The survey results provided a benchmark for the hospital to launch teamwork development program. The results also provided evidence to prioritize the development of leadership in the hospital.en_US
