dc.title | Design of integrated device for assessment of diabetic foot | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Diabetic foot is a complication of diabetes mellitus. The reason and risk factor are varied and complex. People who have diabetic foot usually suffer a long-term diabetes mellitus, which may give rise to limb amputation at the worst circumstances. Diabetic foot obviously exerts a negative implication on the quality of life for the patients and brings about an economic burden. Therefore, efforts to identify the patient who is at risk for diabetic foot and choose the appropriate treatment have become the principal priority for healthcare providers. Foot scanner is a previously developed device to assess the diabetic foot. Through the foot scanner, the biomechanical behavior and thickness of plantar soft tissue could be collected for assessing the risk of diabetic foot. The aim of this study was to design an updated version by adding new units. The intention of designing new units was to improve device functions and make assessment more effectively. The improvements included mechanical design, 3D user animation design and a diabetic foot assessment procedure design. Mechanical design consisted of handrail, computer workstation and the pressure distribution unit. 3D user guided animation was designed to provide vivid and visual assessment. On completion of design, eight evaluators were recruited to evaluate the ability of new units. Meanwhile, with the designed assessment procedure, the real data were collected to demonstrate the trial run of device with new units. | en_US |
