dcterms.abstractABC Terminals is one of the famous container ports in the world. Its throughput handling is the highest of the world. To maintain the world's leading status, ABC provides excellent, efficient and value added service to customers. The current manual steering the crane with visual handling the container, however, causes the decreasing of operation efficiency and damaging or even dropping down the customer's container cargoes. Moreover, no common yard leads to delay of RTGC fault tackling. The objectives of this dissertation are to find a proper system to improve the operation efficiency and customer satisfaction, and reduce human error accident, delay of customer's shipping schedule and compensation; to apply the model in practice to create intra and inter organization network and add value to logistics service for gaining competitive advantage. Global Positioning System is one of systems incorporated collaboration, learning organization, business process reengineering and cost-effective management to assist the company to gain competitive advantage. The efficiency and productivity, therefore, can be improved in order that the company can earn more income. The hardware and software are installed in both RTGC Auto Steering System (ASS) and Position Determination System (PDS). The various tests are conducted to evaluate accuracy, repeatability and reliability of ASS. Besides, the tests are performed to evaluate the functionality of PDS to ensure meeting the requirements. Based on Michael Porter's Competitive Advantage Model, the model of application of GPS in container terminal industry can be defined. Application of GPS can build up intra organization network among departments and business units; and inter organization network among logistics parties including employees, owners, suppliers and customers. All parties can get benefits from value-added GPS application. In order to evaluate the performance of both systems, the indicators including Mean Move Between Failure, accident index and compensation, customer satisfaction index, RTGC container handling time, customer shipping schedule delay index and compensation and return of investment (ROI) are created. There are significantly improvements in operation efficiency, productivity, customer satisfaction, safety and delay of customer's shipping schedule and cost effectiveness.en_US
