Application of expert system in crisis management in gas industryen_US
Providing high quality continuous supply of gas to customer is critical to the success of a gas company. To enable gas company to deal with supply crisis effectively, decision support tools using expert systems might be applicable. In this research project, a crisis management system prototype has been developed using an expert system shell, Kappa. Through prototype evaluation, the validity of the hypothesis "expert system can improve the effectiveness of a gas company to deal with supply crisis" is tested. In this particular case, the Hong Kong And China Gas Company Ltd. (HKCG) is chosen as target gas company. The developed prototype was demonstrated to and evaluated by those relevant staff in HKCG. Questionnaire was issued to collect their comments. Based on the user perception as revealed in the survey results, the above hypothesis is found to be valid. Other than that, the requirement for the final crisis management system had been identified. The lessons learned in this project could throw some light into the development of a full blown crisis management system.en_US
