dc.title | A review of construction safety measure in construction industry based on total quality management techniques | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | This study attempts to review the safety measure/system in construction industry with respect to the total quality management (TQM) concepts or techniques. Safety problem in construction industry poses great concerns. The accident rate of construction industry in Hong Kong amongst other industrial undertakings is always the highest. Recently, a new legislation concerning implementation of a safety management system was approved by the Legislative Council. This legislation would inevitably change the existing safety practices and behavior of individuals working in the construction field. This study commences with identification of safety problems and their underlying causes in the construction industry. Identified problems are analyzed through various domains of an organization. A set of TQM concepts and techniques aiming to tackle the problems are suggested to be incorporated with the safety management system. A survey is conducted to selected construction companies for reviewing the adoption of TQM concepts and techniques in construction safety management and the extent that the construction companies perceive TQM concepts and techniques. The result of survey indicates that TQM techniques are seldom adopted in construction safety system. The survey result also identifies the required areas of improvement in general knowledge of TQM concepts and techniques in construction safety management. | en_US |
