Assessment of emissions of total volatile organic compounds from perfume based on chamber testen_US
Recently, the indoor air condition is received more and more concern. Perfume as a popular consumer product emits volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which aroused more an more health problem, such as allergy asthma, headache. Though few studies shows perfume is direct related to these health problems since detail information of fragrance consisted in perfume can not labeled on the bottle. In this study, an environmental test chamber with controlled temperature, relative humidity and airflow rate was conducted to assess emissions of total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs) from five perfumes. The time dependent of TVOCs concentration of five perfumes obtained by the chamber test was investigated. TVOC emissions from each perfume were compared. The gas chromatography/mass spectrometry system aims to identify, quantify and characterize VOCs in different perfume. Regarding to the library report of GC/MS, the perfume is carcinogen. Since four carcinogenic VOCs including 1, 3-butadiene, and chloroform can be found in perfume. And their concentration is beyond the level which can raise some healthy problems. The laborites work required more facilities time and manual operations and its result will be differ from different locations and different time. The empirical model can overcome these disadvantages, and obtain data more easily. A double exponential model was proposed in present study to assess the characteristics of emission s of TVOCs from these perfume products. The results indicated that the time dependent of TVOCs concentration and the change of emission rates over time can be described. With this double exponential model, the physical process of TVOC emissions can be explained and the initial emission rates and emission constants can be calculated. The evaporation and diffusion were dominated in two phase respectively. The non-linear squared correlation coefficients (R ) and the sum of the squared error (SSE) and different measures showed that the predicting data from models has closely described the experimental data. Therefore, the estimation of TVOCs can be used in specific indoor conditions though models.en_US
