dc.title | Lateral torsional buckling of aluminium section under uniformly distributed load | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | The objective of this dissertation is to estimate the buckling loads of aluminium extrusion beams under uniformly distributed loads by using the finite element technique based on a program 'M1' and by analytical techniques. The program has the capability to handle geometric nonlinearity. Results from the analysis were compared with those given in BS8118 and checked whether or not the reduced limit stress approach in BS8118 is appropriate for slender member. The slender section aluminium beam is not well covered by the CP118, the old and currently used design code, the investigation will be of great interest to engineers. Our findings have concluded that at low slenderness ratio, the results by BS8118 and finite element analysis divert from each other. The reduced stress approach outlined in BS8118 has been shown to be in conservative side. | en_US |
