dc.title | Perception towards purchasing and supply of environmentally friendly paper : a survey in the printing industry in Hong Kong | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | This study was conducted through questionaire sent to printing companies in Hong Kong. In this study, 7 vendor selection criteria were chosen (prompt delivery, short lead-time delivery, price, product quality, quality consistency, environmental issue, brand loyalty), and the writer attempted to examine whether they applied differently to different product types. T-test was used to test the significance of the difference between the use of such criteria with purchases of paper and office equipment and supplies. It was found out that the result was significant for the overall composite score between paper and office equipment and supplies. However, for individual testing, all were insignificant except for 2 delivery criteria. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to study whether there was any relationship between the dependent variable Initiative Dimension and independent variables Government Intervention and Social Pressure Dimension, Market-oriented Driven Forces Dimension, Company Objective Dimension. The result was unsatisfactory and a linear relationship could not be drawn out. In addition, high and low initiative groups to use environmental friendly paper were separated and it was found that government legislation and social pressure would be more effective with the low initiative group than the high initiative group. Motivations as well as obstacles to environmental improvement were also discussed. The respondents showed a general concern for the environment, however, due to the consideration of cost and quality, the use of environmental friendly paper met with obstacles. Managers interested in green marketing will find this useful reference. Waste management is important to alleviating environmental deterioration. Good disposal behaviour enables recycling of waste paper possible and seems to be a sensible solution. However, Concordia Paper Ltd in the recycling business closed down at the end of 1998 and pointed to the non-supportive role of Hong Kong Government in environmental protection and the impact of lassie faire in this. | en_US |
