Abstract: | There is very few turnover study conducted in Hong Kong on the manufacturing sector which has undergone major transformation from labour intensive mass production to high value added manufacturing and further enhancement is required to keep the competitiveness. Loss of engineers hindered the development towards the high-end product and production mode and arose the concern of the industry and official. A study was therefore conducted with the electronic manufacturing industry of Hong Kong. A simplified model derived from the Expanded Mobley et al Model (1979) was employed for the questionnaire survey. 62 respondents from 7 companies from IC Packaging and PCB Fabrication were studied. Result showed that both job satisfaction and perceived alternated job variable did correlate to withdrawal cognition. Individual demographic variable correlated to perceived alternated job variable. Salary was the only factor found affecting job satisfaction under the study. Age, gender and tenure did affect perceived alternated job variable. Correlation was also observed between facet job satisfaction (co-worker, growth and security)and perceived alternative which was not reported in past study. Although the proposed model did not get full support but findings provided additional empirical support to the Expanded Mobley et al Model. The application of findings for management and further study were discussed. |
