dc.title | Critical success factors of supply management for Hong Kong's branded watch manufacturing industry | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Most people consider that manufacturing success in supply management has a positive effect on the performance of manufacturing firms. Branded watch manufacturing is a newly developed industry in Hong Kong. During the globalization of Hong Kong's watch industry, the production of watches shifted from original equipment manufacturing to original brand manufacturing. Owners and managers in the industry are keen to learn more about supply management practices in order to cope with changing organizational and market conditions. Although there have been numerous studies devoted to examining general supply management practices and their implementation, there are rather few industry-specific studies on supply management practices and their success factors, particularly in relation to the branded watch manufacturing industry in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong branded watches manufacturing industry has distinct characteristics, and it is this that has led us to conduct research to understand the existing routine of supply management in this industry. The purpose of this research is to uncover the drivers of success in supply management and create, based on practical research, a valid and dependable tool which can be used to measure these drivers in the context of the watch industry in Hong Kong. To do this, a wide-ranging questionnaire study of senior staff and owners of firms involved in this industry sector was carried out. Using an exacting empirical protocol to analyze the questionnaire results, six drivers of success were identified as follows: long-term relationship orientation, joint planning and activities for efficiency, supply-base management, inter-firm communication and information sharing, supplier involvement in product development, and supplier development. We also identified three measures of organization performance. Then, we conducted regression analyses to determine the relationships between the identified critical success factors of supply management and organizational performance in Hong Kong's branded watch manufacturing industry. This study contributes to research by identifying the success factors of supply management and provides managerial insights into successful supply management practices in branded watch manufacturing in Hong Kong. We also discuss the academic and practical implications of the research findings, point out the limitations of the study, and suggest worthy topics for future research. | en_US |
