Abstract: With the rapid development of China's economy, Chinese IT market has become more and more hot. Many IT projects have been initiated to meet the demand of IT market. However, only a few IT projects can succeed, achieving the goal of the project. Among the factors contributing the failure of the IT project, poor communication has often been cited as the root. The objective of this dissertation is trying to introduce the common communication management models in Chinese IT projects, address the common problems encountered in Chinese project communication, and present a possible solution for effective communication management in project management from aspect of practical and easy implementation. In this research, I studied the communication management in Chinese IT projects, which focusing on discovering the common communication models and identifying the common problems concerning the communication. To get enough data for the research, I designed a questionnaire and an interview guidance, and distributed the questionnaires to the potential respondents, then I interviewed some selected respondents for case study. The research started with the literature review about communication management and IT project. Then I studied 3 cases of typical Chinese IT projects. Based on the 3 case studies, I presented the hypotheses for the research. After that, an analysis was given on the data collected, using the SPSS. Finally a possible solution of effective communication management for Chinese IT project has been proposed. The study result shows that the communication management in Chinese IT project is far from satisfactory despite of rather rich communication resources. The communication model for many IT projects cannot well facilitate the communication across the stakeholders with many problems such as inefficient reporting system, inappropriate communication channel etc. The problems concerning the communication management are also rather serious such as unavailability of interested information, almost no information feedback, no information clarification, disorder information management etc. Based on the findings of the study, I have proposed a possible solution for effective communication in Chinese IT project, which consists of 4 modules: communication environment analysis, communication planning, communication execution, and communication evaluation and feedback.
