Abstract: Many businesses and lives now depend on software. We need larger, more complex, and safer software systems on predictable schedules. Most Chinese software organizations are facing critical business needs for effective quality, better cost and schedule management, and cycle-time reduction with exponential increases in software complexity and size. The challenge, then, lies with bridging this gap and applying techniques to successfully handle this ever-increasing software complexity. The motivation behind this research is to introduce some modern approach to help the software industry of Mainland China more reliable to produce higher quality software by focused on process, that is, to make an advance toward the end of the Software Crisis.
The Personal Software Process (PSP) and Team Software Process (TSP) present a modern way to develop and maintain software to meet current critical business needs. A large amount of practice results show that TSP teams are delivering essentially defect-free software on schedule, while improving productivity. "Process Dashboard" is a powerful supporting tool which can remove the barriers in the PSP/TSP adoption. "Process Dashboard" developed by Software Process Dashboard Initiative is a world-class tool under the open-source model, and is available for anyone using the PSP and/or TSP. Sharing the zeal of SEI and Software Process Dashboard Initiative would definitely promote these remarkable technologies to mainland China software industry. This thesis aims to introduce "Process Dashboard"--a PSP and TSP tool and provide a guideline and framework for Mainland China software engineers and organizations in specific, in order to help them deliver high-quality software products at agreed cost and schedule. Some enhancement special for Mainland China software engineers and organizations also implemented on the basis of analyzing the local china situation.
