dc.title | Acoustical performance of multipurpose hall | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | In a congested city such as Hong Kong, it is more cost-effective to use the same venue to perform different kinds of activity such as symphonic music, opera, assembly and speech. However, different kinds of activities have their own acoustics criteria. A group of two acoustic criteria is suggested to characterize the different purposes of the "Multipurpose Hall"[1] , [2]. The first one is the time criterion, which is the reverberation time whereas the other one is the energy criterion, which is the clarity 50 and clarity 80. In order to investigate the relationship between the time criterion and energy criterion, several experiments were conducted inside the Lecture Theater FJ 304 and Y 305 and Dancing Room. Beside the experiment conducted, two equations were developed to review the relationship between the time criterion and energy criterion. The results are used to investigate that weather the lecture theater FJ 304 and Y 305 are suitable for speech purpose while the dancing room is suitable for the dancing purpose. ODEON is PC software for simulating the interior acoustics of building. It was used to find out the validities of the experiments which conducted in Y 305 and Dancing Room. The stimulation results were similar to the experimental and theatrical results. That is the lecture theater Y 305 is suitable for speech purpose while the dancing room is suitable for the dancing purpose. ODEON was also used to examine the possibility of changing the acoustic performance of the room. It was suggested that the Dancing Room is possible to change for speech purpose by selecting the suitable materials with proper absorption coefficient of material. | en_US |
