Organizations are now wise to the need to concentrate on their core activities in order to increase market penetration and become more competitive. It is now widely recognized that to compete effectively, it is essential for business to concentrate on what they do best and where they can add value. With this, Outsourcing has become a strategy for forward thinking information systems (IS) managers. It is no longer just a means for reducing costs, but a tool for adding value to business. It enables organizations to concentrate on their core business, carry out business re-engineering and provide information that is valid, timely and adequate to assist decision making at the top management level and quality and cost control at the middle and lower levels.en_US
dcterms.abstractIn recent years, China has emerged from this competitive arena depending on its unimaginable development rate. China is striving to widen its market for software outsourcing from Japan and South Korea to Southeast Asia, America and Europe. India is now the undisputed world leader in software outsourcing but China will become the next dominant competitor in the same space by 2006, according to a new report by Gartner. By then, both counties will be generating more than US$27 billion each in revenue. How to grab this opportunity, keep competitive advantage is a critical issue, which software outsourcing vendors in China should face to. This dissertation indicates the weak enforcement of Intellectual Property (IP) protection in China, which lowers down buyers' confidence to outsource projects to China. This paper is intend to present a guidebook for software outsourcing vendors, which guides companies how to protect buyers' intellectual property in software outsourcing projects.en_US
