| Abstract: | Base on the requirement of economy development in China, the plan of developing Shanghai into an international shipping center by the year 2020 was launched into implementation with the State Council's approval in 1995. The initial meaning of Shanghai international shipping center was an integration of port resources in the Yangtze River Delta, with Shanghai as the hub, Jiangsu Province and Zhejiang Province as two wings, which could make the whole region become the base of container transportation and large bulk cargo transshipment. However, after constructing for many years, it is supported by a deeper understanding from experience that international shipping center does not only relate to the port, but also includes the other supporting industries, which is even more important. The purpose of this research is to use comparative research method to find out the success factors of the existing international shipping centers with their weaknesses as well, so that they can be used as references to guild the development of Shanghai port in the optimal direction. At first the project will describe the history of international shipping center, the current situation, and the development trend. Then five samples will be introduced and analyzed under PEST model and Diamond model respectively, in order to establish an entire evaluation system for international shipping center as the foundation hypothesis. After that, Shanghai will be put into the evaluation system for comparison analysis. Although there are some challenges and threats, according to the result of comparison it could be foreseen that Shanghai port has great potential power to become one of the most significant international shipping centers around the whole world. |
